Our first French Super Day: a whole day of French at Twickenham Prep
Last Friday, Emilie headed to Twickenham Prep School to deliver the first French Super Day of the year – and our first since we launched the idea last summer. We're delighted to say it was a huge success!
A huge thank you to everyone at Twickenham Prep for the lovely feedback and for getting involved so enthusiastically throughout the day.

The day at a glance
· Staff welcome – French pastries and treats on arrival
· Whole-school assembly to launch the theme
· Workshops for each class – Years 4, 5 and 6 at Twickenham
· French playground games at lunchtime
· Certificates and goodie bags to keep the French going afterwards
· Support before and after – planning together beforehand and follow-up once Emilie has left
So what exactly happens on a Super Day? Here's how it works, from first planning call to follow-up.
1. Before the day: planning together
Every Super Day starts well before Emilie arrives. A couple of months ahead, we meet on Zoom to plan everything together, covering:
· your vision and outcomes for the day
· logistics and the timetable
· each class's prior knowledge
· your workshop choices
Emilie then puts together a detailed plan for the day, and we keep in touch by email or phone so everything is ready for the big day.
2. On the day
A French welcome for staff
Emilie arrives with French pastries and treats for the staff. It sets the tone, and it's lovely to see everyone relaxing and having a go at speaking French with her and each other. Staff enjoyment matters to us at PLN, so making teachers part of the day is a key ingredient.
A whole-school assembly
We bring everyone together to introduce the theme, get pupils involved and create the sense that something special is happening across the school.
Workshops for every class
Each class has its own French session. Schools choose two workshops from the Super Day brochure, and each one is age-appropriate, curriculum-aligned and designed to be engaging – more than just fun! Emilie brings all the props and materials, so teachers can simply join in with their class.
Two examples from the menu:
What is school life like in France?
Pupils compare French and English schools, discover French subjects and classroom equipment, and use a real French timetable to explore a typical school day – before deciding which school they'd choose!
Storytelling in French: The Colour Monster.
Pupils join in with a French story, revisit five colour words and practise five emotion words. Using actions, props and simple questions, they build the confidence to retell parts of the story themselves.
French at lunchtime
The French doesn't stop when lessons finish! Emilie sets up a box of traditional French playground games, with instructions so children can play independently, and helps them get started.
Certificates and goodie bags
At the end of the day, every child receives a certificate linked to the workshop they took part in, and each class gets a goodie bag of posters, badges and ideas so the French can carry on.

3. After the day
The support doesn't stop when Emilie leaves. She stays in touch to answer any questions and help you build on the enthusiasm the day creates.
A Super Day is much more than a day of French lessons. It's a chance to celebrate languages across the whole school and give children an exciting, memorable experience of using French.
