About Primary Languages Network
Educating the future generation of primary teachers has been an intrinsic part of what Primary Languages Network stands for. The value of the primary teacher being confident enough to engage in the delivery of foreign languages in their classroom cannot be overestimated.
Over the last 20 years Janet Lloyd and the team of PLN specialists have developed an ITT training programme and support resources to enable all future teachers to have the confidence and capacity to deliver effective language teaching. We believe in the benefit of languages as part of the wider curriculum and the teachers understanding of the value of making purposeful cross curricular links appropriate for the age and stage of the pupils.
We are proud to have built long term relationships with Teaching Schools, SCITTs and HEIs nationwide to deliver outstanding training on their behalf. Current partners include Liverpool John Moores University, Bradford University, Severn Teaching Hub, Bright Futures, Ignite Institute and NASBTT.
About the ITT course
In line with the ITT Core Content Framework, trainees will explore the fundamental principles of teaching a language and will become confident in their understanding of the subject.
The course can be delivered online or in person (where distance allows) and include practical tasks, interaction and off screen time.
We explore:
National guidance and support for Primary Languages
How to develop effective speaking, listening, reading and writing skills with your pupils in a Modern Foreign Language.
Understanding how Primary Languages fits within the Primary Curriculum.
Ongoing support for the training year for all trainees with free access to tailored resources via a student ITT Dashboard, which contains further online training, lesson resources and language upskilling.
This course is also suitable for Early Career Teachers who may want to build up their understanding of the subject.
Supporting PGCE students
The key content of the course considers the pedagogical approaches to the delivery of primary languages for every child in the primary sector. ITTs explore how to deliver lessons that meet the learning needs of all learners. The course has been successfully adapted and delivered to support under and post-graduates in their understanding of the subject, regardless of the level of language competency, in line with our vision to enable all primary teachers to enjoy and be effective foreign language learning facilitators.
