How do I set student usernames & passwords?
Recommended option (fastest)
Use the onboarding import links so students create their own usernames and passwords during sign-up. This is the fastest, most secure and least time-consuming option and is the way the webapp was designed to work. We encourage you to use it whenever you can.
We strongly recommend using the onboarding links (import via onboarding links) so students set their own username and password — this is the quickest method and the one the webapp is optimised for. If using onboarding links is not possible, follow the steps below to set credentials yourself.
If you must set usernames/passwords manually
Important: we recommend importing your users first (see blog). If you import users, you can set usernames during the import process. If you need to set credentials from the Admin area, follow the steps below.
1. Go to the Classes tab (Admin account)
Sign in to your Admin account.
Open Classes from the main menu.
Click the class you want to work on.
2. Open Credentials for that class
Click the three dots (options menu) for the class.
Select Credentials from the dropdown.
3. Set usernames
In the Credentials panel, look at the bottom-left and click Set username.
Type the username you want for the student (we recommend a consistent format, e.g.
firstname.lastname
oryear3_jones
).Save.
4. Set passwords (optional)
If you also wish to set passwords yourself:
From the same three dots → Credentials area, select the option that shows a Unique link & PIN.
Use that link + PIN flow — this will allow you to set a password for the student.
Important: make a secure note of the password immediately. Once a password has been created it cannot be viewed again in the admin area — only reset.
