Building Whole-School Confidence in Primary Languages
As the new academic year builds momentum, we’ve had the privilege of working with several new PLN schools to deliver whole-school CPD in primary languages. Our focus has been simple: help teachers feel confident, supported, and excited about bringing languages into their classrooms.
The feedback from these first sessions has been incredibly encouraging. Here are just a few reflections from staff:
“Everyone was really positive about the training. The teacher upskilling section was particularly helpful — staff now feel confident knowing the Spanish ‘expert’ is there to support pronunciation. The mini-game and whiteboard activity suggestions were also very useful.”
“The platform feels straightforward and very engaging. Staff are excited to start using it and feel confident and supported. The session length was perfect, and staff were happy to explore independently afterwards.”
“Access to Video2Teach will really help develop staff knowledge and confidence. It was great to see how KS1 can use the scheme, and staff found it valuable to understand what children should achieve at each stage.”
What these sessions achieve
These comments highlight exactly what we want our CPD to deliver:
Upskilling teachers – giving staff practical tools and strategies to build their confidence in leading language lessons, even if they don’t see themselves as “language experts.”
Making pronunciation accessible – removing the fear of “getting it wrong” by showing how our resources and the Spanish voice model can support accuracy and confidence.
Classroom-ready strategies – from mini-games to interactive whiteboard activities, teachers leave with clear ideas they can use straight away.
Engaging resources – the platform is simple, structured, and designed to empower staff to work independently while still feeling supported.
Clear progression – showing staff what pupils can achieve at each stage gives teachers a sense of direction and purpose.
Why this matters
For many schools, the biggest barrier to whole-school success in languages isn’t enthusiasm – it’s confidence. Teachers want to deliver great lessons but often feel underprepared or nervous about their own subject knowledge. These CPD sessions are about breaking down that barrier, showing staff that they don’t have to be linguists to teach languages well, and building a shared culture of confidence across the school.
Looking ahead
We’re thrilled to see new schools embracing languages with such positivity at the start of the year. With the right training and the right resources, schools can make language learning a success story for every teacher and every pupil.
