Simple & fun games to refresh languages knowledge

It’s the start of a new acdemic year, already!

Did we actually have a summer?

Here in Manchester we certainly didn’t experience much sun. (like usual)

The first week back in language teaching & learning can be hair pulling for teachers,

Some kids have left their brains at the centre parcs rapids, and others are too busy trying to remember how to tie their school shoe laces.

It can be a slow start

But we are here to help. Here are a few simple activities to get those brain cells buzzing, and to recall all that fantastic vocabulary and grammar that is embedded inside the long-term memory of your students!

1.        Mind Maze

Turn your whiteboard into a puzzle by writing numbers, colours, and days of the week in a random order. Have students pair up to sort them into themes and read aloud

2.        Mystery Messages

Students write a greeting or farewell in the target language on a partners hand using their fingertip. Can they guess the message or word? Try it with key content and personal questions

3.        Language exchanges

Form a circle and start with a target language word. Walk to a student who must give the English meaning, then they pass it on with a new word

4.        The beat goes on

Practice familiar questions & answers, focusing on rhythm and stress. In pairs, students tap out the beat and guess the sentence. A musical way to master language patterns

5.        Ready to rap

Taker your language learning to another level by turning role play into rap. Use a dialogue from previous lessons and challenge your students to transform it into a performance or rap
