5 reasons why you should book a PLN consultation

Support is at the heart of our service to schools. Subject leads are crucial to the success of primary languages, effective decision making can have a massive impact upon the quality of provision.

This is why we offer, as part of our service, consultations with our PLN experts. Schools can book in, any time, with one of our team, at no extra cost, to get the advice they require to make their in school decisions correctly.

The consultation service has been our most popular support since it was established, and has had great effect with our coordinators and schools

Here are 5 reasons why you should book in a consultation today!

1.        Mixed-aged classes

With mixed-aged classes being more prevalent by the year, many coordinators book in a consultation to ensure the scheme if fitted appropriately to their school. We have found that every mixed-aged school is different.

It is an umbrella term to a multi variant issue, for example, different starting points, ability and year mixing, means that one piece of advice for one mixed-aged school, provides little value to another.

This is why a consultation is so important, they will help you mould the PLN scheme to your school properly, and suggest options where possible, so you can do the final bits of tailoring.

This isn’t all, we offer recurring consultations, as we know it make take some further refinement, and continuous development to ensure that languages is taught as effectively as possible

2.        New to PLN

Schools new to PLN are advised to book a consultation and a whole school CPD in their first few weeks. For most, these are the only sessions required to then make significant progress in their school.

During this session the expert will show you through some of the key pages on the platform, for example, coordination tools and planning tools, and also guide you towards your next support steps should you need them. They will also answer any burning questions such as phonics, grammar, vocab or scheme structure, so that you feel confident in your planning and leadership role.

3.        New subject lead

Starting up as a coordinator, even with a great scheme of work can be daunting, with many new concepts to remember and manage.

This is why a consultation is perfect for new subject leads. We will direct you to the correct training & continuous support. We will also give you a breakdown of what is most important with PL, and what is your next best steps to make progress.

Booking in a consultation, and preferably recurring sessions, can ease new coordinators into their role, and take out the trial & error phase of learning the ropes.

4.        Upcoming ofsted

OfSted is a stress isn’t it! We want to help you prepare as much as possible when in the OfSted window. Therefore why not book a consultation in, and have a ‘mock’ interview with one of our experts. We will ask key questions, and ask you to bring documentation to the session with you, so you are readily prepared for the future.

We will review your situation and provide any further feedback to improve and refine your primary languages as well. This is also great evidence of your CPD, and will strengthen you for the future.

5.        Switching languages

Moving from language to another, unfortunately is not as simple as it sounds, there are many things to factor, for example how much has been learnt in the language. We must be delicate with how we switch, and a transition programme must be established before you do so.

This is where the consultation comes in handy, the expert will help you in the justification process, and then guide you through the transition to ensure that any progress and learning isn’t lost, whilst still switching over to the other language successfully.

Be prepared to be challenged with your reasons, as it is crucial, with OfSted in mind, that the change is for the right reasons, and will be a success in the long term. Once again, recurring sessions with an expert is really important with this one.

So there you have it, 5 reasons why coordinators & subject leads book in consultations, do not hesitate to do so yourself, we are to help you with every step.
