European Day of Languages 2017
We celebrate European Day of Languages every year in our network.Here are some of the wonderful ways we have explored our theme of "diversity and languages" with our Open Door resources this year.

Queens Park CE St Helens held their own Eurovision Song contest
Year 3 at Birchwood CE have been practising fruit flavours and polite requests as part of their Hungry Giant work ... with their own special French sweets too!
St Lewis Catholic Primary and Parish CE UKS2 have read an Easter poem and then written their own Easter French poems using the verb avoir and interesting adjectives
St Margaret's CE Year 5 have created a Paris skyline at night with French descriptions of famous sites in the city.
Nutgrove Methodist CP YR have learnt Incey wincey spider in French and counted all the spiders they could see climbing up and down the drain pipe!
St Ann's Sutton have been busy receiving letters about houses in Spain and writing back to their Spanish penpals in their link school in Malaga

St.Michael's Catholic Primary have been awarded the enhancing Primary Languages Development Award for all the school's tremendous work with Spanish

Queens Park CE Shakespeare love poems in French - finished display!
Brilliant idea to join in Shakespeare Fortnight at Queen's Park CE- French love poems using the verb to be" in the style of Romeo and Juliet!
Winwick CE Year 3 created photo booth pictures to revisit their personal information sentences
Winwick CE Year 4 built word skeletons as part fo their Y4 Spring 2 focus on the body in French and there was a special twist! Could they add the missing letters in the nouns?

Alderman Bolton KS2 listened to French story books on World Book Day and took a vote to find their favourite.

St Benedicts Year 5 made fabulous "I love reading" book corners,using our template triaramas to make their own.
St Peter's Catholic Primary Y4 loved making their French versions of Cat in the Hat posters with different animals.
Inspired by the book Cat in the Hat, Y3 at Penketh CP have created "alternative book titles" with animals in Spanish for World Book Day.

Penketh CP Y6 have been makiung Valentine's cards and investigating nouns in bilingual dictionaries looking for gifts they would love to share !
Barrowhall Y5 have been using knowledge of animals, descriptions and a lonely hearts theme to practise their Spanish this February.

Bradshaw CP Year 1 have been exploring the Gruffalo .Gwyneth explains " Here are a few pictures from the big book that our Year one class have been working on, all about the Gruffalo. One of our children is half French so we decided to write speech bubbles for the characters in both Spanish and French. The children enjoyed listening for similarities and differences with the words in the two languages"

Barrow Hall Year 5 have been practising their knowledge of fruits,vegetables as nouns and the position and agreement of adjectives to describe the fruits. They recorded their work as Yakit4Kids speaking photos
St Margaret's Y5 French have been working on their knowledge of masculine, feminine, singular, plural , definite and indefinite articles and nouns. They have made "Fruit Kebabs" to practise the pattern and the change in articles and plural endings on nouns.
Children in Year 3 at Alderman Bolton were transfixed to the screen as they saw one of their French teachers, Emilie, appear on the screen and they joined in with her games and activities about animals. It was animal magic!
Palacefield CP have joined the network and their children have celebrated the start of a brand new Spanish language learning career with PLN, by singing and becoming "Spanish language superheroes".
Delighted that Bruche have achieved the Primary Languages Development Award "Enhancing" standard, to celebrate all the hard work and commitment of the school to Spanish and the skills of learning of a primary foreign language.

St Basil's and first day back in Year 3 and we had fun playing the Epiphany Crowns Games to revise our numbers in French. Each"Crown" has a number on the front. The photo shows us playing a memory game. The teacher shouts out a number in French. The children have to remember the name of their classmate with that number.
